Following on from the success of the glass floodwalls constituting Phase 1 of the Waterford Flood Alleviation Scheme, we were awarded the much larger contract to complete Phases 2, 3 and 4. This offered protection to both domestic and commercial properties which had been blighted by flooding.
Over 2000 tonne of sheetpiles formed the backbone of the project, often with severe access issues. Supplemented by embankments, stone faced walls, pumps and various gates and barriers, the works were carried to tight ecological and environmental controls. Included in the contract was Japanese Knotweed eradication as well as design and fabrication of pre-cast stone faced panels to cover exposed sheetpiles.
Mr. Gavin O’Donovan of RPS Consulting Engineers presented a paper to Engineers Ireland on the scheme.
